Vanitas (Sung Jung)

When I first heard about vanitas project, I was confused. The reason was that how I could choose only three among so many belongings.  I had a car, many clothes, ps3, and...etc. However, I tried to find out which objects would represent me better than others.
The first object that I pick up is iphone5.
I love new technology, and I always check the news for new electric devices. I was excited because I already had used my cell phone for two years. After waiting a  new apple product for such a long time, disappointedely Apple launched only iphone4S last year. Finally, this September iphone5 came out, and I figured out pre-order began September 14th.

On September 14th, I couldn’t sleep until pre-order time (2 AM) because I predicted iphone5 would be sold out very fast. As I presumed, it was out of stock within one hour. However, I couldn’t succeed the order on time because AT&T online was totally frozen for one hour. After finishing the order the phone, I found the delivery date was postponed two weeks.  I cancelled the pre-order, and visited Apple store directly at Lakeside shopping mall last Friday. Fortunately, I barely got one before being sold out. Someone could say it was just a phone, but for me it was more than that.

The second objects are liquor glasses.
I bought these two when I visited San Antonio during the hurricane evacuation. I like to travel around the world. Whenever I visit sightseeing places, I usually buy some souvenirs. However, it doesn’t have to be a expensive things. It's enough for me, if it can remind me the place I visit.
By the way, my mother collects little bells, so I bought many bells for her when I visited European countries. Now I want to make my collection with liquor glasses. I hope I can visit many places in the USA as many as possible. Each of these glasses is at most $7, and it is easy to carry because the size is small. Also it is easy to find similar product in the USA.

The third object is a Korean traditional fan.
I brought this from Korea to give my friends as a souvenir. I gave some of them to my friends, but I still have two. I am using this for decorating my room. This Korean traditional thing reminds me of my home country, so I feel comfortable at my room even though I’m far away from my home country. Even though I am staying here, I am still Korean.

In conclusion, I chose iphone5, liquor glasses, and a Korean traditional fan as three objects. They reprensent my passion for new technology, traveling souvenir, and my identity.
